Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner dead aged 91

Image
HUGH Hefner, founder of the iconic Playboy magazine, has died aged 91. According to a statement from Playboy Enterprises, Hefner died of natural causes at his home in the Playboy Mansion. Founding the magazine in 1953, Hefner built a brand that defined the sexual culture of the second half of the 20th century. Playboy’s buxom models were the objects of millions of men’s fantasies as Hefner challenged what he derided as America’s “puritanical” attitudes toward sex. For decades, he was the pipe-smoking, silk-pyjama-wearing centre of a constant fantasy party at Playboy mansions in Chicago and then in Los Angeles. Hefner’s funeral or burial plans are unclear, but reports suggest his final resting place may be next to Marilyn Monroe. He bought the crypt next to her at the Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles nearly 25 years ago for almost $US100,000 ($A128,000) according to The Guardian.MORE: Inside Hugh Hefner’s Playboy mansionRENDEZVIEW: How Hugh Hefner changed th...

Image
Mumbai: Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, who turned 88 on Thursday, says age doesn't dampen her spirit and that she has always lived with a hope for a better tomorrow. "Bahut ho gaya... Aapko kaisa lagta hai... Aap gaati kyun nahin hain... Aapke favourite naye singers kaun hai... Aap apni behen (Asha Bhosle) se kyun nahin milti... Arrey bhai, sab ho chuka hai (It's enough... How do you feel? Why don't you sing? Who are your favourite new singers? Why don't you meet your sister? I have answered all this enough). "Let's talk about the fun times," she suggested as though she were 18 rather than 88. With a girlish giggle, Mangeshkar said, "Should I tell you the truth? I don't feel my age at all. I still feel young. I've never been weighed down by my troubles. Everyone has her share of problems in life. Even when I was young and struggling, and I was happy hopping from studio to studio bumping into other strugglers like...

Lata Mangeshkar on her 87th birthday: I have a desire to sing more but not for films

Image
Back in 1942, when a 13-year-old girl stood in front of the mic for the first time – she sang a Marathi song, ‘Natali chaitraachi navalaai’ in the Marathi film, Pahili Mangalagaur – no one knew that Lata Mangeshkar would go on to become a true-blue legend. As the ‘nightingale of India’ turns 88 today, HT Café catches up with the singer about her life, completing 75 years in the industry, and her thoughts on celebrating birthdays. At this stage, what do birthdays mean to you? To be honest, ever since I was a kid, I was never excited about birthdays. It remains the same even now. In fact, whenever anyone would celebrate my birthday, I would get a bit sad (laughs). As a kid, on my birthdays, someone would get me a new frock, and my mother would perform aarti and give me something sweet to eat. That was the only ‘birthday celebration’ during our childhood. Later on, due to our circumstances, celebrating birthdays became out of question. Now, I can celebrate my birthday, but...

As we get ready to sing Happy birthday to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who turns 88 today lets reminiscence some rare trivia about her. Born as Hema, she was renamed as Latika after a character in one of the plays of her father Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar; Trivia about our beloved DidiHappy Birthday Lata Mangeshkar: If You Think You Know All About Her You Might Be Wrong Lata was not only gifted but ever willing to learn. Once legend Dilip Kumar observed that she is having a Marathi accent. Instead of taking it to heart or protesting Lata immediately took diction training from an Urdu teacher named Shafi.
